Asking Dio, the AI tutor

Where Dio appears, what changes before and after Check, how to point at a sentence or a question, and the daily question limit.

What Dio is

Dio is Xplodia's AI tutor. You can ask about the passage, a question type, or an explanation, and Dio answers based on the questions you have open, your answers, and the study goals on your profile.

Where Dio appears

  • While practising with Show instant feedback on. After you press Check, an Ask Dio button appears at the bottom of the player and opens the Dio panel on the right. Press Hide Dio to close it. Before Check, open Dio by selecting a sentence in the passage or a question, then choosing Ask Dio in the small menu that appears.
  • On the review screen after you submit. The Review button in your report opens the walkthrough package by package, with an Ask Dio panel on the right. If the panel is closed, reopen it with the sparkle icon in the top right.
  • In lessons. Click Ask Dio in the top bar, or at the bottom of the screen on smaller screens. If you get a lesson check wrong, the Ask Dio for a hint button opens Dio with a message asking for a hint. The message is not sent yet, so you can edit it first.

When Dio is not available

Dio is not available during a session with Show instant feedback off, including pretests and posttests. After you submit, you can ask on the review screen. For now, the Dio panel on the review screen only shows on wide screens, not on phones.

Before and after Check

Before you press Check, Dio does not have the answer key, just like you. Dio will not give, confirm, or rule out an answer choice. Instead it points you to the part worth rereading, explains what the question type is asking, and asks you a guiding question. The Give me a hint, not the answer suggestion in the empty panel fits this moment well.

After Check, or on the review screen after you submit, Dio can open the official explanation for the question before explaining. A small Looked up the official explanation note shows in the conversation. Other notes, such as Checked your progress, mean Dio looked at your learning data to tailor its answer.

Dio can also point at a sentence in the passage. The sentence is highlighted in violet, the screen scrolls to it, and a Pointed at the passage note appears in the conversation. Your own yellow highlights stay yours.

Pointing at a sentence or a question

To show Dio exactly what you mean, you can:

  • Select a sentence in the passage or a question, then choose Ask Dio (in the player) or Ask Dio about this (on the review screen and in lessons). The sentence attaches to the message box as a quote and goes out with your next question. You can attach up to five at once.
  • Type @ in the message box to pick the passage or a specific question, such as question 3. This option is not available in lessons, so select the sentence there instead.

In the player, the Ask Dio menu only appears while Highlight mode is off. With that mode on, the text you select is highlighted straight away.

Your conversations are kept

Conversations with Dio are saved per question package. A chat you start while practising shows up again for the same package on the review screen, and reopening the panel does not use up any of your questions. In a lesson, one conversation covers the whole lesson, across its pages.

The daily question limit

Every message you send to Dio counts as one question, wherever you ask, including when you pick a suggested question. The allowance is currently 50 questions a day and may change. As you near the end, the space under the message box shows what is left, such as 5 questions left today. Once it runs out, the message box locks with You have asked a lot today. Dio will be back tomorrow. The allowance refills the next day, with the day changing over on Jakarta time (WIB).

Dio can be wrong

Dio is an AI, and its answers can be wrong. Before you trust an explanation, check it against the sentence in the passage and the official explanation. If the answer key or the explanation itself looks wrong, report the question.
